badlands

do you remember the feeling
of liquor dripping down your lips
that night we were high by the beach?
down by the water
with our toes in the sand,
tripping on the horizon
where the sun hides from us.

I don’t know what I see, yet
you know what I see,
but your eyes go wild and
run from me
and I can’t find the soul
I used to see in your eyes.

so I keep my eyes wide
as we stare,
pupils dilated.
you wear the sunset like
a halo but you’re my
devil in disguise.

so take me back to where
love runs wild and
hope runs thick;
to the backseat of your Range Rover
where the weight of your hips
were between my legs and
where the taste of Jack
filled the space between our tongues.
